Grubshup documentary series is back : From Anil Paranjape

Hey Friends,

after a brief (?) hiatus of almost 2 months, we are ready to notch-up our documentary series, starting this Sunday (18th December) at 10am sharp at Grubshup.  This time, we will screen an amazing documentary, Nero's Guests, depicting the plight of farmers on the backdrop of farmer suicides.  This hard-hitting documentary will surely make us introspect and brainstorm our choices more so that we can make a positive impact on this problem.

Business Stripped Bare – A Book Review

Business Stripped Bare – Richard Branson
This is an inspiring personal account by Sir Richard Branson about his 'Business' journey which, I believe, should be a recommended reading to all the people who have done their MBAs, have tried and failed getting into a MBA institute and even those who have not tried this route to learn art and science of entrepreneurship.
The book is very easy to read and peppered with interesting anecdotes that the author brings to demonstrate his points and principles. The tone of the entire book is very engaging and not at all intimidating. If one were to go through the mind boggling accomplishments of the author in his career spanning 40 years, it would be natural to consider it almost impossible what he has achieved in his lifetime setting up 200 companies in over 30 countries in the Virgin Group. We might be tempted to treat this phenomenon as an exception, which ordinary mortals cannot aspire to achieve. This book is his attempt at demystifying the track record and distilling the principles that he has naturally followed.

Businesses don’t fail; entrepreneurs fail

From http://blog.bootstraptoday.com/

Businesses don’t fail; entrepreneurs fail. While it sounds impolite and punitive, many a times this is the case. If you are a second time entrepreneur, then you will agree out of your experience that the execution takes the toll and the efficiency at the execution level decides the fate of your business.
Take for example the case of Apple. Apple sensationalised the use of a tablet computer by making iPad Tablet Computer in 2010. But Apple was not the first to introduce the tablet computer to the market. Microsoft had already introduced the concept of a tablet computer way back in 2001-2002 timeframe. So what was the difference between these two entrepreneurial honchos – Bill Gates and Steve Jobs – which made the difference in the sales of their respective tablet PCs? Definitely it was the aesthetic finesse with which Steve Jobs would introduce the products to his customers and his marvellous skill to get his vision executed by his people.
Similar is the case with FacebookMark Zuckerberg’s execution plan was incredible. Remember Facebook was also not the first of its kind social media networking model. MySpace and Friendster were already doing the same thing.

Source : Time of India

PUNE: A group of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) under Pune Nagrik Sanghatana (PNS) has appealed citizens and activists to contest civic general election 2012 as its candidates.
Fuelled by Anna Hazare's anti-corruption agitation that evoked huge public response across the country, PNS feels it stands a chance to cleanse the system.
"The PNS will contest the 2012 civic election. The objective is to accomplish goals of clean politics and people-centric governance. PNS will select, screen and support worthy, clean, ethical and socially committed candidates. Those who want to contest polls under our banner should contact on 9823117434 or mail to punens@gmail.com," said Vivek Velankar, one of the founder members of the organisation.

SEO Tips to improve your website's rank

Ashish Kulkarni

Ashish Kulkarni

Director, Web Design Glasgow Ltd.

Giving your site the ratings that it needs to draw in the business you desire means getting your search engine optimization on the right path. If you aren't optimizing your site, you could just be operating a site that no one knows about, which doesn't do you any good. Use these SEO tips for a better understanding and greater opportunity in search engine optimization of your website online.

Do not focus heavily on using your business name as a tag when it comes to search engine optimization. Except for large, widely known companies, most users do not search for a specific company when doing blind searches. Include your business name in your metadata fields, but it is not necessary to weight it or otherwise move it higher in your tag structure.

Idea Factory : Small Idea Big Impact

Now most of the malls or retail outlets have some kind of loyalty card to earn points on every shopping you do.  If they also introduce a group loyalty card then  group can earn points on any purchase made by any group member.  This can be redeemed for group parties at particular food joint or some gift which can be collectively used by group members e.g. talk time among group members, birthday gift to any member etc.

For ease existing card holders can make group and get group ID, on every purchase they will get extra points under group ID as well without affecting their individual points.

How is it different from current individual loyalty program –

Outlet attracts the group rather than an individual. Imagine college friends making a group and doing shopping only from particular retail outlet.
Members become isolated from competition as inside group people are buying from one outlet only so you reduce the exposure of competitive brands within the group. It is a big impact as buyers do impulsive buying by seeing friends.
If you put more thoughts you can think of many benefits and also many ways to redeem group points.

Nasscom Product Conclave Outreach Workshop on 8th November 2011

Pick up the paper on any given day and you’ll read about another failed product or technology. At the same time, other technology products catch fire and become wildly successful. What makes the difference? Typically, the root cause is not a poorly conceived product. The culprit is simple. Those that successfully capitalize on a new product or market inflection point have a compelling, thought-provoking, engaging story and execute an effective go-to-market strategy That’s it. However, very few technology companies are effectively able to translate their product IP and features into a message that resonates with buyers and captures the imagination of the market. Or execute a long strategy that makes an impact in the market.
