Janwani , a Pune based NGO, working towards Solid Waste Management

Janwani , a Pune based NGO, has been working towards improving the efficiency of Solid Waste Management in the Pune Metropolitan Region (PMR) since its inception in 2006. In 2011, we successfully planned and implemented the Zero Garbage Model in Katraj. The model is based on the concept of decentralization of processing of garbage resulting in lower transportation costs and also reduced garbage sent to landfill sites. To ensure that the decentralized processing, garbage needs to be segregated into wet and dry. The wet waste is locally processed in compost pits and biogas while the dry waste is recycled by the waste pickers. The model is environment friendly, economically viable  and socially justifiable.

Based on the successful implementation of the Model, Janwani has have been working in association with Pune Municipal Corporation(PMC) in implementing the model in 20 prabhags of Pune Municipal Region.

The public-private partnership in making Pune a Cleaner and better city to live and work needs corporate support for sustainability. Corporates like Cummins India Ltd, KPIT, Persistent have joined hands with Janwani in this endeavor.

Corporate participation in various awareness programs to spread the message of segregation of garbage has had positive results in improving the level of segregation.

We urge corporates to team up with us in this endeavor of making Pune a clean and green city.
