2nd UNIKEN INNOVATION LECTURE SERIES

· Why can't the next Google or Facebook come from an Indian campus?
· Why doesn't our system (teachers & parents included) encourage students to become innovators and entrepreneurs?
· How many engineering students have turned their final-year projects into million-dollar ventures?
· More than 85+ lakh youth employed in Indian IT sector, yet very few innovators / entrepreneurs / world-class products from India - why?

These issues need to be addressed if India has to leap-frog the technological advances made by other developed nations of the world, and realize its potential as a leading economic power. We attempt to find answers to these pertinent questions in the next session of the Innovation Lecture Series, with the theme "Students as Innovators".

UNIKEN is organizing the 2nd UNIKEN INNOVATION LECTURE SERIES, on 8th September 2011 (Thursday) in association with CIIE (IIM-Ahmedabad), S.L. Kirloskar Chair - University of Pune, College of Engineering Pune, at COEP Auditorium, Pune.

We are inviting students from engineering institutes, colleges, universities, b-schools and post-graduate institutes to showcase / present their innovations or innovative ideas, concepts, prototypes, final year projects, or ready-to-market products. We will select the 3 best innovative ideas / projects from those showcased, incubate them in our R&D centre, provide mentorship and help commercialize them. There will also be prizes and awards for these 3 innovations.

Through this platform, and the recently-launched national innovation & entrepreneurship network with CIIE (IIM-A), UNIKEN encourages more innovators & entrepreneurs to take their ideas to market and commercialize technology by mentoring them and helping them find their 'first customer' (or 'early adopter') -- which is a more inclusive and long-term-growth oriented approach as opposed to traditional models of seeking seed funding.

This event will also feature a talk by Mr. Sanjay Deshpande (Chief Innovation Officer & CEO – Uniken) and an interactive session with Dr. Whitfield Diffie – world renowned American cryptographer, creator of Diffie-Hellman Key Exchange (algorithm), a pioneer & leader in public-key cryptography, encryption and network security. Dr. Diffie is the Vice President of Information Security at ICANN and Scientific Advisor to Uniken Inc.
