LEADERSHIP WITHIN LEADER

- by Francis Sequeira, Mumbai. goafrancis@gmail.com
A person born blind has never seen the light yet has a perceived vision, which enables the person to walk on the railway platform without falling on the tracks. You will find many blind people in the trains, who have a way of finding their way despite all the potholes, open gutters, trenches, nallahs, vehicles, hawkers and the dense crowd of people. We seem to be future-blind - bothered by the problems of the past, grappling with the present reality and similarly worrying about the negatively imagined future eventualities.  Lord Buddha became a spiritual leader when He found his way from this world to his Divine Destination-Eternal peace in Heaven. When Sir Edmund Hillary made up his mind to conquer Mount Everest, he tried to somehow find a way to the top of the peak. When Neil Armstrong decided to walk on the Moon, the NASA team found the way to the Moon, which enabled him to land on the Moon. Dhirubhai Ambani  found a concrete way to achieve his cherished dream of establishing his own corporate empire.
The mark of a leader is not just a having an idle vision but the way to realise the related goals to transform that vision into reality within a time frame. A sea captain knows his destination and also the navigational route to reach the destined port. Marco Polo did not exactly know his destination but was constantly trying to foresee the way over the ocean, by gazing at the stars in the sky and being aware of the hidden rocks. Many corporate leaders similarly try to achieve their goals, which appear to be far beyond their reach. When Sir Edmund Hillary and Sherpa Tenzing started their journey to conquer Mount Everest, the way to the peak was full of dangers. When Neil Armstrong started the journey to the Moon with two astronauts, it was an extremely long journey, fraught with all sorts of risks and uncertainties. It took a very long drawn out struggle for India to gain freedom from the British Raj. When one dares to dream, one must wake up to the harsh present reality, wherein one will encounter problems, difficulties, obstacles and even dangers. When the destination becomes clear, one needs to muster the solid self-determination to reach it, notwithstanding no-matter-what.  This is a peculiar state-of-mind, which evolves over the years since childhood,  points out toward future course and also defines our destination. We are all self-captains on the ocean of life. Not every man will think of conquering Mount Everest. Many will develop cold feet if they are asked to climb a hill. Many will shy away to avoid the risk of injury by falling by giving plausible, sensible excuses to ratify their stand of not going uphill as well as to mask their inadequacy.
These are the youth who are afraid or unwilling to move up in their life and career. These are the youth who give in to addictions and take to merry-making as a way of life into the future.  For them enterprise is too risky, burdened with many responsibilities,  fraught with uncertainties,  very difficult, hard work. They feel there is no social life at the top, nobody cares for nobody, life is a reckless rat-race just to keep up with the Joneses. Only a few are determined to move ahead in life through all thick and thin. Every moment a child is born-a leader is born in the cradle, but the leadership within the child is suppressed by the elders, who want to make the child a living doll or a submissive puppet, constantly pampering and frightening, frustrating  and aggravating the child. Such children, who are negatively nagged and victimised by parents and peers during childhood, are  caught in the web of emotional dependencies based on fears, frustrations and the bottled fury, which defines their character, as they grow up to become  adults in the world of the living. The suppressed emotional lava comes out in many ways-good or bad, love or hate, goodwill or ill-will. There is an inner urge to put down or to control others either by imploring or by compelling others unconsciously to take revenge for all the hurts/inflicted pains, even by finding scapegoats, including one’s near and dear ones. The loved ones become the object of hatred and malice. The friends become the worst enemies. Even blood brothers become strangers. These children grow up to become civilian Hitlers, who want to wield social or political power in the society or amass wealth by hook or by crook. Aggressiveness is mistaken for assertiveness. The aggressiveness is mostly directed toward people who are gullible spineless scarecrows, which evaporates into thin air while confronting someone stronger or powerful. The poor people residing in the gullies boast of illiterate gang leaders, whom frankly they are actually afraid of, but at the same time they admire them for their silly guts. Some ride bikes rashly. Some climb on the top of the trains. Some upstarts pick up quarrels for any silly reason to start a fight to show off their bravado. However, all are not bad, there are good souls among the poor who have made history by becoming great spiritual and political leaders and guided the destinies of people and nations. Abraham Lincoln is a shining example of a historic personality, who saved America during the Great American Civil War, who rose from the ranks of the lumberjacks to become the President of the United States of America.
As the child grows up a large number of desires and dreams start bothering it, as it grows into a youth, adolescent and an adult. These desires are induced by the surroundings, prominent members of the family or society and most of all by the mass media, which has invaded even the privacy of our bedrooms, disturbing everyone’s sleep and is consciously and unconsciously controlling the minds of the youth - the politicians are busy emotionally arousing the youth just to bag votes, the popularity seeking celebrities are incessantly influencing the youth mainly to have a large number of fans and the advertisers, at the behest of the industrialists, are compulsively obsessing the youth with their crazy advertisements for luxury goods ostensibly to add value to their lives, defining new hi-fi lifestyles and expensive, luxurious ways of living, while at the same time the spiritual leaders also are tirelessly goading and guiding the youth to live a simple life of love, charity and values. Some youth are carried away by the fads and fancies of modern technology and they somehow try to get set into it, whereas only a very few take to the spiritual path. Modern society thus has become scientific rather than spiritual. The youth want to have a lot of fun and make merry for which they strive to make big money. Money is a powerful motivator. Reputed MLM-multi level marketing companies have used the money-motivation, car-motivation, house-motivation to boost sales phenomenally with a short period of time. The youth are willing to slog day and night to buy their coveted dream house, or the most-envied fancy car, to impress their infatuated sweet-hearts, friends, relatives and neighbours. In the maze of desires and day-dreams the youth looks at the present day events trying to guess the future-que sera ?, mainly thinking of how to adjust to the present and figure out how to eventually fit into the future scheme of things to come - the inflation is always pointing upwards,  the cost of living is only increasing day by day, the technology is constantly upgraded;  so also the demands of the job, the expectations of the loved ones and the fierce competition in every walk of life. The age-old cotton mills had to shut down with the onslaught of new technology spinning mills churning out high quality fabrics. Century-old US Camera pioneer Eastman Kodak, once employing over a lakh employees, has now filed for bankruptcy, left with only 19,000 employees, unable to keep pace with the digital age.
Modern life itself has become like the reality shows, where many are invited to participate but only one or two become the winners. Daily life is a “Kaise Banega Crorepati” game, where some smart-asses/whizkids show off some specific talents to  garner higher increments concomitant with higher posts, while the hardworking Toms-Dicks-and-Harrys make a show of sincerity and slog for over 14 hours just to eke out a living.
It is very interesting to note that the youth join the corporate world with certain attitudes, which are ingrained in them, during their education, which springs out during their probationary period. The youth will have to face seasoned, corporate office politics hu-tu-tu/kusti players, who have programmed/conditioned themselves to play certain faltu desi games;  as detailed below to prove their strength and make their mark in the eyes of the management, seniors or the HR Dept, which they feel is essential to survive and also thrive in the organisation.
Mai Boss: Tu Bandha  : The one who is very close to the boss  feels like the Alter-Ego of the boss and will thus try to boss over others. Those who fear  will honour and obey, because of the fear of being sacked. Many have some vain pride may be because of their special talents, indispensability or stakes in the organisation. They compel others to honour and respect them as bigwigs. In politics these are the “sahebs” who wear huge turbans and long drawn out shawls, sport beards, moustaches and long hair.
Mai Khilaadi: Tu Anaadi : Many consider themselves as super-smart, which is not a bad idea at all. They are super-performers and win awards during the annual day. They are publicly honoured and enjoy the support of the bosses who want them as they are indispensable. The bosses will always give them top preference over others. This however frustrates others who feel put down and humiliated. The juniors put up for sometime with this denigration and then peacefully and amicably quit. In politics these are the activists who try to boost their image by playing kabaddi (pulling the legs) with other politicians. Some try filmy stunts of attacking the image of film stars, sports-stars and organising campaigns, protests, morchas/dharnas, putting up thousands of banners, lakhs of posters all over the city roads. The ruling politicians have not been able to pass the retail FDI and Lokpal bills, which can benefit the poor farmers and bring about good governance.
Mai Bada : Tu Chota  : This is based on the designation pride which develops as the years roll by. By proving some talents and showing some good results and gaining experience in the specific field/industry, some are able to climb the corporate ladder and thus show off their position power to others who are lagging behind or who are below them in the corporate hierarchy. They do not like to see anyone go above them. They promptly put in their papers if anyone goes above them in the organisation or if anyone is appointed above them. In politics these are the ones making tall banners of themselves and putting up these banners at the junctions for all to see, trying to pose and impose themselves as great leaders.
Mai Guru: Tu Shishu : Some are thirsty for knowledge and imbibe knowledge from all the different sources, which serves as an ace up their sleeve. Others become dependent on them for advice and guidance. They make a show of some wits and wisdom by reciting some mantras. They become philosophical about life, thus they come to be regarded as gurus. They get upset if anyone tries to be as smart as them or out-smart them. In politics these are the ones posing and imposing themselves as spiritual leaders but wearing the garb of gurus, growing beards and pretending to be swamis, taking advantage of idol-worship and mesmerising the people with large number of banners and posters with Gods/Goddesses put up at every nook and corner of the cities, to project an image of being avatars.
Mai Baap: Tu Bachhaa : This happens mainly because of the age seniority. Whether the person is fit to be senior or not, the youth have some respect for the age. Some have survived in the organisation for over one or two decades and have seen the ups and downs. They command respect because of their seniority and experience of the organisation culture. This cannot go on for long, because of the rapid changes and cut-throat competition ushers in new hi-fi technology. They are adversely affected when the technology and also the culture of the organisation undergoes a sea change, where age does not matter at all. Today talents talk and money walks. There is no place for non-achievers. Hence only those who have the superior talents and are super performers find themselves in an advantageous position in the modern organisations.  They others anxiously cling to the jobs out of necessity as they will not find any jobs anywhere else. They jump at the opportunity to take VRS-voluntary retirement scheme. In politics, they are the defectors who form their own political outwits or join other parties in higher positions or to give vent to their pent up emotions.
Mai Bhola : Tu Chela : The seniors make a show of spiritual values and even act like swamijis. The juniors are obliged to do the same. They love to do something good. They give good advice and are praised for their simple wisdom and experience of life. They believe in the kar bala-ho bala principle. They are charitable and do some voluntary work for some charitable organisations or donate generously for the common good of the poor in the society in order to boost their image in the eyes of their neighbours at home and at the work place. In politics they are the Mr. Cleans, who try to project a clean image of themselves to impress the people. Cheats and conmen are extremely deft at presenting a Mr. Clean image while fooling and cheating others. Many bol-bachan politicians try to gain popular support by resorting to mud-slinging and washing dirty linen, while they are all sailing in the same boat. The scams exposed by the mass-media points to a deterioration of ethics in politics, much is left to be desired in the forthcoming elections.
Mai Saarthi: Tu Saathi : The youth charged with some passion want to be in the saddle. They do not like being ordered by others. They want others to be their ardent followers-list to them, accept their ideologies, dance to their tunes and glorify them. They show their worth by achievements and results, which idolises them in the eyes of their juniors, who are glad to be led by them. The juniors place their trust in them and their confidence gets a morale boost, as they are mentored and guided by the experienced leaders, who have the knowledge and the know-how, how to make things happen in reality. In politics they are the ones seeking higher positions and struggling to become movers and shakers in local or national level politics.
Extraordinary ordinary man like respected late Shri Dhirubhai Ambani  broke out of this vicious circle of living to eat and eating to live mediocre routine, inflated show-offs and  hand-to-mouth life, by adding a new dimension to his life - Entrepreneurship. He thought differently and faced the challenges of the present socio-politiconomic status-quo, foreseeing with a strong self-belief and hope to make things new  -  promising a bright future. Starting with a small trading outfit he established a financial empire comparable with corporate giant-Tatas. There was a strong urge in him to do something great -to establish his own corporate empire which he did, surpassing his competitors and even the corporate giants in India, earning recognition globally as a multi-billionaire.
A thought process thus entails that leadership is deeply rooted in the inner urge to dominate or an inner urge to serve. Human history has witnessed both Hitler and Mahatma Gandhi. Leadership begins with a strong urge to change with time and do something spectacular. Where there is a will, there is a way. When there is a way, there is a will to succeed – an unconscious urge to lead, which makes a leader restless to achieve the cherished dream goals, with a specific time frame or over a period of time. The Will charged with goodwill leads a leader to do something beneficial to society or the poor. Mother Theresa is a simple example of noble service to the poorest of the poor- the dying destitute beggars lying abandoned on the streets. The Will charged with ill-will brings about misery and pain to the people.
There has always been a deep-seated urge in the minds of all the spiritual leaders to lead themselves and others toward God Almighty. The strong urge to lead others makes one a vibrant leader, which urge to lead generates and conveys with conviction, a clear vision of the future and a well-defined, practical mission (plan of action/ways and means) to achieve the related goals in order to realise the ultimate vision with a time frame.
Daily life is a maze of problems (which have solutions), which we are all always trying to resolve one way or the other.  There are a number of problems at home, at the work place and while commuting to and fro from the work place. Those who are unable to challenge the  problems lag behind in life and try to find some happiness in the comfort-zone of mediocrity. As it is rightly said-Jo jeeta wohi sikandar - the one who challenges these teething problems and finds solutions becomes confident of overcoming such obstacles and emerges the winner in enterprise. Such conquerors boost their own self-confidence so much that the others are greatly influenced by their ego-ideals, ego-aspirations and enthusiasm.
For the leaders, the problems are no longer obstacles but actually milestones pointing toward success for the adventurers, testing their mental capabilities. The failures are no longer setbacks, but only corrections which beckon toward success. Those who lose heart lag behind, finding some palatable excuses for their inabilities and inadequacies, while they discourage others out of malice, (who also become losers/addicts), as losers they cannot see others succeed when they have failed. They want to pass on their bucket of emotional suffering to others around knowingly or unknowingly. They try to put obstacles in the path of the victors and conquerors mainly to save their faces, they shout some slogans out of frustration to bamboozle their egoistic Egos, they resort to violence or lay traps to unnerve others out of fury which is driving them crazy. Finally, these wounded souls seek some solace in the bars to find some alcoholic relief or take refuge in some beach resort to find some token relaxation of the mind and go to ashrams to massage their bodies with potions.
Those having the qualities of leadership stand tall in the face of all adversities, challenge all the negativities with positive thinking, find out some possibilities in the maze of impossibilities, change with the changing times, make rational decisions and take practical initiatives to achieve their aims and ambitions, by inspiring and motivating others. The MLMmulti-level-marketing industry is based on this very simple principle <> make leaders out of others to make big money. The leader of the leaders makes a fortune in MLM over a period of time. God is with all those who help themselves. Many are glad to follow those who are capable of achieving certain realistic goals, who see the possibilities clearly and who are able to show the way toward success to others convincingly, which calls for a clear vision along with communication skills and emotional intelligence, to intellectually and emotionally motivate others how to actualise the mission and realise the vision within a time frame.
The road to success is full of difficulties and challenges, as one will have to face the pangs of inflation, corruption and most of all cut-throat competition. The huge corporations are spending billions in their Research and Development (R&D) Departments, bringing out mind-boggling innovations and unimaginable technological breakthroughs, which keep fanning the flames of fierce competition in the whole world, compelling everyone to keep up with their competitors, in order to survive, facing the hurricanes of change, tsunamis of innovations and the bane of recessions.
Realising a dream involves many specific set of goals to be achieved. If one dreams of setting up a new enterprise, it calls for finance, assets and most of all talented personnel. A leader needs to foresee the future and to find out what needs to be done in the present to achieve the cherished goals in the near future. The inspiration to lead is inherent. We sometimes wonder how  less educated people become great industrialists and multi-billionaires within one or two decades. What do they have which our MBA youth lack ? What makes them different from the highly educated, talented, smart youth, who begin with a less paid job and only try to climb the corporate ladder as the years roll by showing some limited performances and pooh-poohing their bosses? These youth are like trained monkeys dancing to the tunes of the monkey trainers (the corporate gurus) / their superiors / bosses. The trained leaders are shown videos of some leadership freaks, who pose and impose themselves as leaders- (which is a kind of mimicry). They are taught some emotional hat-tricks to charm others, bolstering others’ egos, exciting others about the imagined rewards and gains, making a show of success, praising others,  tom-bullying others, exciting others, moreover intimidating others with unpleasant consequences, promising /compromising, etc, which eventually results in debilitating others, devastating others, diminishing others and depressing others. The smart ones are able to see through the hat-tricks and cannot be fooled by the make-believe show of leadership. The others cling to their jobs just to make their two ends meet throughout their working life.
The leaders are under the constant peer pressure to show concrete results in this cut-throat competitive world, for which they keep cracking the whip to achieve corporate targets. This puts the team members to undue stress, strain and tension. This happens because the management has a great vision, but is indifferent to the practical difficulties, hurdles, obstacles and problems faced by the team members, who are simply put under the compulsion to achieve-resulting in undue mental agony, physical stress (due to lack of sleep, over-work, missing food, etc) and the constant performance anxiety, which the team members experience during the strenuous, lunch-less days and sleepless starry nights. At the end of the year, the management people boast of excellence, higher performance, super profits and also claim higher increments and promotions, while leaders and their team members put in their papers to look out for openings elsewhere, which only benefits the competitors, who are on the prowl looking out for disgruntled members, who can develop their businesses with a vengeance.
The passion about the vision and the conviction about the mission to realise the vision inspires others. Leaders communicate their vision passionately to their group members which inspires them to believe in the successful achievement of the vision. The belief is strengthened by the small successes in achieving related goals. When one climbs the ladder step by step one is going up. The juniors express many doubts and raise queries since their thinking is negative. They may not see the vision of the leader and its attainability as clearly as the leader does. Their attitude is to try and see whether their efforts will be crowned with success or not.
Once the leader induces the vision and explains the mission to the group members very clearly, they are bound to get motivated to take initiatives in that direction. They look upon the leader as a source of inspiration to succeed. They put their trust in the words of wisdom of the leader. The leader makes them feel confident and capable of achieving the goals through training and guidance. Here communication skills with listening skills come into play. Leadership is a relationship with the group. A relationship defined by both ethics and job-skills. The leader challenges the juniors without offending anyone and gives an opportunity to the group members to prove their worth individually or collectively.
Leadership is mistaken for boss-ship  - just giving orders and compelling  the members to achieve. A member is not a machine or a robot taking orders and obeying orders. The group members are only human. The vision defines the targets and the mission defines the plans of action. When each one understands the importance of achieving the smaller goals, each one gets motivated to prove one’s worth in the organisation. The contribution of each and every one is significantly invaluable as each department has specific goals to achieve. One cannot do without the other. All have to work in tandem.
The leaders show the way during tough times and guide their juniors   to tackle ticklish problems. Behind every motivation there is a worthwhile, meaning and purposeful cause. Everything is done with a purpose in mind. Everyone is motivated with some cause – the basic motivation may be the need for money to make ends meet or advance in life. There is also a deep seated need to be recognised at home and at the workplace, which gives inner satisfaction. There is a strong urge in everyone to be a VIP at home and in the society. There is a childhood urge to be pampered and loved. The members try to look for love in their private lives.
Each one has a dream of one’s own. Hence, it is important to note whether each one’s dream is being fulfilled.  The players on the field, are not playing just to win the trophy, which is secondary.  The primary motivation is to be recognised in the society or simply to make money. Many do wrong doings to get the right things in life, which lands them behind bars.  The youth are charged with the greed for wealth, longing for wine and lust for women. Some want to enjoy higher posts at the workplace and hold high positions in the society. Competition forces each one to give his/her best. Each one wants to be the best.
The hard times separates the rice from the husk. The hard times brings out to the hilt the leadership within leaders.  Failures lead to success. Nobody has succeeded in life without failures.

Leadership is a relationship wherein behaviour matters. This will spell or dispel the relationship. Social and cultural trends demand adjustments to the organisation. Individualism leads to conflicts with others which is detrimental to leadership. The leader has to balance both personal and corporate goals. Many youth come out of their management institutes with the book knowledge and wrong impression that management is leadership or that leadership is management of the people associated with them. They feel their job is to look for faults to be able to blame others and lack the emotional maturity to adjust to people of different temperaments. They think effective leadership is through generation of fear of the boss, fear of being sacked and fear of retribution to control their juniors, like the horses drawing the chariot who are driven by the whip. They become helpless when the juniors unite and become strong through union activities and their boss-ship goes for a toss.

Management gurus have stressed the difference between management and leadership. Management forecasts expected results and spells out the functions. Leadership focuses on motivating people to realise the management goals. Management demands results. Leadership guides each team member to achieve specific goals to make things happen. Management is basically planning. Leadership is execution of the plans in reality. Management spells out the broad vision and objectives. Leadership envisions possibilities to realise the vision through a concerted mission-a plan/s of action. Training the members to imbibe expertise and skills. Delegating tasks to members depending upon their capabilities. Rotating the tasks for better achievement and involvement. Giving opportunity to the members to shoulder responsibilities. Soliciting ideas, brain storming and making decisions to implement plans of actions. Recognising achievements. Praising and communicating individual successes. Appraising each and every member impartially. Holding regular meetings to update the members about the course of action. The Management is handicapped without an effective leadership. Leadership strives to bring out the best from each and every member of the organisation. The behaviour of leaders directly in touch with the members determines the extent to which the leader will be successful in achieving management objectives. The leader’s behaviour will motivate team members toward achieving the goals within a time frame. The leader’s behaviour is based on positive thinking, polite assertiveness, business-like interactions without emotional tantrums, no-nonsense attitude, boosting the egos of the team members, making them feel good and guiding them like guided missiles to achieve extended targets leading to the determination of the vision.
A conducive climate is created where the team members are spurred into action to achieve the goals, which will boost their self esteem and feeling of self-worth in the organisation, which is a highly motivating and retaining factor. This facilitates development of character and the image of the team members, the sum total of which is the image of the leader. The greatness of a singer is determined by the audience. The greatness of a leader is determined by the group members. The image of the leader directly determines the self-respect of the group members. The powerful self-belief of the leader in his/her capabilities has a profound effect on the team members, who imbibe the belief and become sure of success.
Set backs and failures are not made an issue to put down anyone. Nobody fails on purpose but because of the unfavourable circumstances. Putting down the team members due to some setbacks brings about the ruin of the organisation as the team members will lose confidence and give up without even trying. Self esteem is developed through the self-image of the leader which is projected on the team members. A leader who looks up on himself/herself and boosts the esteem of his juniors enjoys respect, trust and support of the juniors through all thick and thin.
Leaders have a powerful self-belief in themselves which boosts their self-esteem. They value others and are regarded very highly by the juniors. This deification of the leader makes leadership effective. The leader has to know the way to guide the juniors by making the right decisions and doing the right things at the right time. This will result in the juniors admiring their leader. Leaders with high self esteem try to make right decisions, take responsibilities and share the credit with their juniors, to make everyone feel happy about the collective achievements. This prevalent state-of-affairs motivates them to work with zeal and commitment wholeheartedly and enjoy the recognition for their contribution to the achievement of corporate goals.
The boost in self esteem results in higher and higher performances by the team members even beyond the expected targets. When the horses of the chariot are whipped they are forced to release more power and gather speed. When the self esteem of the team members is boosted constantly the result is highly spirited performance even beyond what is planned, as it banishes fears, negative thinking, self-limiting attitudes and empowers the self-concept, conveying the powerful I-CAN positive feeling in the minds of the members. Leaders with high self esteem are bound to work wonders which will surprise the management. A positive and powerful self-image of the leader stands in good stead during trying times, where the team members are motivated to boldly challenge the situation and succeed in the face of all the adversities. The sports-stars with high self esteem are always likely to win in the ring or on the field.
The leaders who develop a strong self-esteem in their members by using affirmations, not comparing them with each other, guiding them to overcome their weaknesses, boosting their self-confidence, involving them in the vision and mission of the organisation, arouse creativity in the members, who show astounding results of their own accord. An effective  leader overcomes their fears and anxieties with strong convictions over-ruling their negativities while making them feel comfortable. The vision is sincere and practical, the practical possibilities remove the paralysing doubts. A leader lets the members race ahead of him. If anyone is showing extraordinary performance the leader is willing to appreciate it and will encourage it.  A powerful magnet is needed to generate electric power. A charismatic leader can generate confidence in the minds of the juniors. A leader has to maintain poise to deal with self-doubts of the juniors, which are contagious. Self-doubts destroy self-confidence.  Leaders are risk takers. Leaders know they have to take the leap ahead but they have to do so by looking ahead before they leap i.e. by understanding the risks involved and the losses in case of flops. The biggest obstacle in leadership is self-criticism which generates self-doubts and shackles the leader and depresses the juniors. The negative thinking styles automatically makes critical, self-limiting judgments, negative over-generalizations, negative conclusions destroying positive thinking and hope. Challenging negativity generates hope and success orientation. Accepting failures sportively without putting down the members keeps the morale high.  The negative shoulds need to be combated, which frustrates those with high-spirits and hope of success. Looking at success successfully is the mark of a leader, who can turn around members, who are on the brink of defeat. Mistakes need to be understood. Mistakes are not made deliberately but because of uncertainties, sudden change of events, challenging situations or difficult people in power, who obstruct the smooth working of the members. They have to face obstinate obstacles which are hard nuts to crack. The leader has to learn from such situations by thinking creatively with a cool head how to get over it. Visualizing failures lead to failures. Success is lurking in the maze of hardships and setbacks. Successful leaders look at success even in the fog of despair, which leads them to success. Hence, it is observed that the same underlying principle which makes an organisation a leader in the market holds good for corporate leaders too. The above simple factors which define the leadership in the organisation also define the leadership within the leaders in the organisation. The belief-making leadership can sweep many others off their feet and make them run the extra miles to prosperity, just as a dog gets excited on seeing the ball and madly runs after the ball and gets it. Both the dog and its owner are extremely elated. The owner showers praises and the dog is determined to go for it again with even more passion, zest, zeal and energy. Good leaders are needed to show the way to the people to prosperity.
