As part of My Story Sessions, TiE Pune presents Inheritors to Innovators Series. This includes Hearing from and Interacting with Next Generation ‘Inheritors’ from iconic business houses. Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar

Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar is the Chairman and Managing Director of Kirloskar Brothers Limited (KBL), the flagship company of Kirloskar Group. KBL is India's largest manufacturer and exporter of pumps and also the largest infrastructure pumping Project Company in Asia.

The core businesses of KBL are large infrastructure projects (Water Supply, Power Plants, and Irrigation), Engineered Pumps, Industrial Pumps, Agriculture and Domestic Pumps, Valves, Motors and Hydro turbines. KBL Sales in 2010-2011 exceeded US $ 590 Million.

Born on 22nd March 1957, Sanjay holds Bachelors in Science degree and has completed his Mechanical engineering from the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago, USA. He joined KBL at the age of 25 and became the Managing Director at the age of 28.

Under his leadership KBL became the fastest growing company in India. KBL has grown from 70 Cr. to 2600 Cr. during his tenure as Managing Director and still going strong. He focused and steered the company's attention to core engineering and industrial segments.

Today, Kirloskar Brothers Limited is one of the leading top line pump companies in the world, catering to various sectors like Power, Industry, Irrigation, Water, Oil and Gas, Marine and Defence, Distribution and others. Over a period of years, KBL has evolved from a water management solutions company to a total fluid handling Solutions Company.

Under his leadership KBL achieved growth and today has a global presence catering to pumping needs of more than 80 countries. He directed business expansion plans with acquisitions of the British pump-makers SPP and South African pump repair and refurbishment company Braybar. SPP Pumps was a loss making pump company which was turned around into a profitable entity.

He was also the leading force behind a joint venture in fluid handling and pumps with Ebara Corporation, Japan. The Kolhapur Steel, Kirloskar Brothers International B.V., Kirloskar Brothers (Thailand) Limited, Kirloskar Systech Limited are subsidiaries of Kirloskar Brothers Limited.

Today, KBL has 13 manufacturing plants, six of which are located overseas.

Mr. Kirloskar heads CII's ASEAN Committee. Apart from Kirloskar Brothers Limited and its subsidiaries, he also serves on the board of Kulkarni Power Tools Limited. He heads the 'Energy Conservation Awards' which is a Kirloskar group green initiative to promote iGreen industrialization.

Mr. Sanjay Kirloskar was an active member of Young Presidents Organisation. He is on the Board of Trade, Government of India, and also a member of the Government-Industry joint task force.

He was adjudged as one of the top tax payers in Pune in the year 2011 by Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Pune. He was also awarded with the 'Green Leader' award by ALERT in the year 2010 for KBL's Global Head Quarter 'Yamuna' which is the platinum rated LEED certified.

Mr. Alok Kirloskar

Alok graduated in Business Administration with a concentration in Finance from Carnegie Mellon University, USA. He joined Kirloskar Brothers Limited in 2007 as a General Manager. Before joining KBL, he was associated with international organizations like Girvan Institute of Technology (NASA technology Commercialization Division), Toyota Motors, USA and Sonansoft Corporation (Microsoft GPC).

He heads the Industry sector at KBL and is responsible for pumping products and systems in the industrial sector for process & utility applications in Steel & Cement plants as well as process needs in pharmaceutical, chemical and fertilizer plants.

 In addition to this, Alok also handles Mergers and Acquisitions portfolio at Kirloskar Brothers Limited.

KBL acquired SPP Pumps making it the world's largest fire pump business as well as a world leader in FMUL pumps. KBL recently acquired Braybar Pumps in South Africa for manufacturing high head mining pumps exceeding 1400 meters of head as well as rubber lined slurry pumps.

He is also a Director on the boards of SPP Pumps Limited, UK and Braybar Pumps (Pty) Limited, South Africa.

Alok is an active member of Young Indians (Yi) an integral part of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), India’s premier business association, formed in the year 2002 with an objective of creating a platform for young Indians to realize the dream of a developed nation.
