Post Office on Wheels


      Department of Posts, Pune Region has rolled out an innovative, a quite new concept and unique of its kind, first time in Maharashtra and Goa Post Office on Wheels from 1st November, 2011 which was flagged-off on 1st November, 2011 at the auspicious hands of Rev Dadaji J.P. Vaswani, Sadhu Vaswani Mission, Pune in a befitting ceremony.   

    The “Post Office on Wheels” is full-fledged and well equipped computerized post office to cater to all kinds of services, a normal post office provides.  It has required hardware and software necessary for operations alongwith UPS and Inverter back-up.  It is also equipped with marketing infrastructure such as hoardings, standees, LCD TV, Public Address System, Handbills and other marketing material. 

    The Post Office on Wheels is authorized to provide all types of postal business such as opening of new Post Office Saving Bank/PPF/ RD/TD/MIS/SCSS Accounts, Sale of National Saving Certificates, New Pension Scheme accounts, Speed Post, Registered Post, Business Post, Express Parcel Post, Electronic Post, Electronic Money Order, Payment of BSNL Mobile and landline bills, Sale of Postal Life Insurance, Sale of Rural Postal Life Insurance, Sale of Chotukool of Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd., Sale of iCode Cards and Sale of Mutual Funds.

    Working hours of the “Post Office on Wheels” are from 08:00 AM to 08:00 PM, (excluding Sundays and Postal Holidays), during which it will cover pre-notified 5 locations in a day.

    “Post Office on Wheels” is designed to facilitate college students, housewives, senior citizens, handicapped persons and working class particularly, the IT professionals, professors/teachers, office goers, business community, etc. who find it difficult to avail the postal services during postal working hours.

    The “Post Office on Wheels” initiative is aimed at :-


ii.                        Making Puneites fully aware of the glorious journey of India Post  since 1854 and various  changes brought out by implementing new initiatives totally riding on modernization and technology.
iii.                      To apprise them of the benefits of various products and services of the Department of Posts so that they can gainfully use the same.
v.                        To take postal services to senior citizens and housewives, who are unable to come to existing Post Offices, due to their age and family constraints.
8.         The services of “Post Office on Wheels” have already been utilized by more than 25,000 Puneites from 1st to 26th November, 2011 and the “Post Office on Wheels” has earned revenue for the Department of Posts above worth Rs.20 Lakhs during the same period. 
9.         This new initiative has been welcomed and wide coverage has been given by the Press and Electronic Media.  The response from Puneites to this initiative has  also been quite encouraging and excellent  and the “Post Office on Wheels” is being welcomed by them at each location visited by it.  Few clippings of the Press coverage are attached for your kind perusal.
